Wilson and Cuomo formed a band, Fuzz, and enlisted Scottie Chapman on bass. After the group disbanded, Cuomo met drummer Patrick Wilson, and moved in with him and Wilson's friend Matt Sharp. Vocalist and guitarist Rivers Cuomo moved to Los Angeles from Connecticut in 1989 with his high school metal band, Avant Garde, later renamed Zoom. Prior to this, Cropper performed with Weezer on their 1992 demo album The Kitchen Tape, which featured songs that would later be on the Blue Album. Cropper received a co-writing credit for the acoustic intro on My Name Is Jonas. After Cuomo noticed problems with Cropper, he was fired while recording the Blue Album to avoid jeopardizing the band. Jason Cropper (pictured in 2018) played lead guitar with Weezer from 1992 to 1993. Weezer has sold 10.2 million albums in the US and over 35 million worldwide. In 2008, Weezer released the Red Album its lead single, " Pork and Beans", became the third Weezer song to top the Modern Rock Tracks chart, backed by a Grammy-winning music video. Make Believe (2005) received mixed reviews, but its single " Beverly Hills" became Weezer's first single to top the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and their first to reach the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Weezer's fourth album, Maladroit (2002), achieved mostly positive reviews, but weaker sales. After the Green Album tour, Welsh was replaced by Shriner. With a more pop sound, and promoted by singles " Hash Pipe" and " Island in the Sun", the album was a commercial success and received mostly positive reviews. In 2001, Weezer returned with the Green Album, with new bassist Mikey Welsh. Following the tour for Pinkerton, bassist Matt Sharp left the band and Weezer went on hiatus. Both the Blue Album and Pinkerton are now frequently cited among the best albums of the 1990s. Weezer's second album, Pinkerton (1996), featuring a darker, more abrasive sound, was a commercial failure and initially received mixed reviews, but achieved cult status and critical acclaim years later. Backed by music videos for the singles " Buddy Holly", " Undone – The Sweater Song", and " Say It Ain't So", the Blue Album became a multiplatinum success. The alternate version was put on later pressings of the album with the full intro, reworked chorus and outro. Cuomo stated in an interview during the band's 2005 performance at the AOL Sessions as saying "Well, if these ten thousand people think it should go this way, maybe we should go back and re-record it." When touring in summer 2005, when the band prompted the crowd to sing along, they oddly enough sang it in the other way Cuomo had written it (different from the record version). The reworked chorus that appears in the radio edit was one of two ways Cuomo originally wrote the song. The radio edit is eight seconds shorter than the album version. The radio edit of this song features a shortened intro, a synth track on the first and second chorus (the album version only has it on the second chorus), a reworked "oh-oh" chorus and the added backup vocals of "perfect situation" over the outro.
